Industries

Restaurants and cafes.

Someone deciding where to eat tonight looks for the menu, the hours and a way to get a table, usually on a phone and usually in a hurry. Here is what we would build for a restaurant, a cafe, a bakery or a bar.

Ember and Oak concept site, the dinner menu set as text on a cream panel with dishes and prices in three columns.

From your side

What a restaurant needs from its website.

  • The menu has to be readable on a phone

Not a file to download and pinch at. Real text with dishes, prices and a note about allergies, which loads fast and which a search engine can read.

  • Hours and location can never be wrong

Today's hours, holiday changes, the address, where to park and a number to call. A guest who arrives to a locked door does not come back.

  • Getting a table should be obvious

A reserve button on every screen that leads to the reservation system we already use, or a number to tap if we take bookings by phone.

  • The menu changes and the site has to keep up

New dishes, new prices, a seasonal special. Updating the site should be a quick message during prep, not another job after close.

The example

A concept, clearly labeled.

Concept

Ember and Oak

We designed and built Ember and Oak to show how we would approach a restaurant. It is a wood fired steakhouse on near black pages lit by firelight photography. The home page opens on a reserve button and the hours, then moves through the dinner menu, the dining room, the private rooms and a reservation section.

Ember and Oak is an invented business. We designed and built it to show how we would approach a site in this field. It is not a client.

  • A reserve button in the header on every screen
  • The full menu set as text, with a price beside every dish
  • Private dining rooms listed with the number of guests each one seats
  • A reservation section where a guest picks a date and a time
  • Opening hours listed day by day, beside the address and phone number

Process

How a project runs.

  1. Talk it through

A short call about how your restaurant runs and what the site has to do.

  2. Written scope

Pages, features and the price in writing before any work begins.

  3. Design and build

You review real pages, not just mockups, and send feedback in rounds.

  4. Launch and handoff

Domain connected, files delivered, accounts in your name. Care is optional.

Questions

Before you ask.

Have you built a restaurant website for a client?

Not yet. Ember and Oak, the example on this page, is a concept: an invented steakhouse we designed and built to show how we would approach one. Our client sites are on the work page.

What does a restaurant website cost?

Our website packages have published prices. Business Starter is $500 for one scrolling page, which suits a cafe with a short menu. Business Website is $700 for up to five pages. Anything beyond a package is written into the scope with its price before work begins. See pricing

Can guests reserve a table through the site?

Yes. If you already use a reservation system, we set up or embed it so guests can reserve from your site. One standard setup or embed is included with Business Website and is $150 with the other packages. If you take bookings by phone, the reserve button can simply call you.

Can people order online for pickup or delivery?

If you already use an ordering or delivery service, we link to it clearly from every page. A custom ordering system built into the site is a larger piece of work. We have not delivered one for a client yet, so it is scoped and quoted after a call.

Our menu is a PDF. Can you work from that?

Yes. Send the file and we set the menu as text on the page, so it reads well on a phone. If you would also like the printed menu redesigned to match, menu design is $150.

How do we update the menu and hours?

Send us the change. With the Website Care plan at $99 per month, up to 30 minutes of small changes each month are handled for you. Without a plan, changes are billed at $75 per hour with an estimate agreed first.

We have no good photos of the food. What should we do?

Photographs of your own dishes and your own room work best, and we will tell you which ones the site needs. We will not pass off stock pictures as your plates.

Tell us about your restaurant.

We will reply with a clear next step and a written scope.
